Acura TSX is an interesting example of what gear ratios can do for fuel consumption. Although the six-speed manual transmission version of the 2.4 engine has more gears, it is still not as good as the 5-speed auto box version. This is more clearly demonstrated at highway speeds where the auto box gets 2 mpg better. The V6 engine has the same 5-speed auto gearbox but it can only help up to a certain point, which nevertheless gets a decent fuel consumption for this engine class. Overall, Acura TSX is good car in terms of fuel consumption but it can better with smaller VTEC engines or a modern Honda diesel engine that is so popular in Europe.
